Halloween, like many holidays, is a day of getting for kids – getting candy, small toys, sweets, cupcakes, you name it. Anything with sugar in it is fair game. Don’t get me wrong. I love Halloween as much as the next person. I have fond memories of Halloween as a child and have always wanted our children to love Halloween as much as I do. This year, while your little ones enjoy Halloween they can also learn an important lesson about giving to children in need as well.
In its 63nd year, UNICEF is hosting Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. You can request free collection boxes for your kids and they can ask for donations for UNICEF either on Halloween as they go door-to-door or during other times during the festive Halloween season. As the largest youth volunteer initiative children have raised over $167 million through the years.

New this year is the Create a Character Contest. Let your little ones get creative and make up their own character. Three winners’ characters will become a part of limited edition boxes next year. You can see a gallery of characters that children have created so far.
DONATE: If you would like to make a donation you can text the word “TOT” to UNICEF (864233) to make a $10.00 donation to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
